Sciatica


Sciaticia stems from back pain that results from inflammation, injury, or some other problems associated with the sciatic nerve, that typically affects one side of the lower body. This may lead to localized lower back pains or pains that are more radicular in nature which travel into the hips, buttocks and even the legs. Sciatica may trigger pains that are sudden or somewhat more gradual. Most complaints of sciatica stem from spinal disc herniation. However, there are additional causes which include:


  • Degenerative Disc Disease
  • Bone Spurs
  • Spondylothesis - Forward Slippage of a Vertebrae
  • Tumours in the pelvic area
  • Overweight - Pregnancy
  • Muscle Spasms
  • Sciatica can cause pains that range from mild to severe which may include the following symptoms
  • Lower back pain
  • Leg pains that is heightend with sitting
  • Hip pain
  • Burning or tingling down the leg
  • Weakness, numbness, difficulty moving the leg or foot
  • A constant pain on one side of the buttocks
  • A sharp, shooting pain that makes it difficult to stand up
